Growing Halton, Growing Health Care: $165.4 Million Hospital Investment
OAKVILLE—The Ontario government is celebrating the start of construction at Halton Healthcare’s Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, which will see the renovation and expansion of existing space to make room for over 100 additional hospital beds. The project will support up to 200 jobs at the peak of project construction and is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario’s health-care system by investing $64 billion in more than 50 major hospital projects across the province over the next 10 years.
“Through this fund, our government is making a significant investment in the future of healthcare in Halton. With $165.4 million in provincial funding, this investment will support two important projects: expanding Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital by adding up to 111 acute care beds, and renovating Milton District Hospital to add 12 additional beds while supporting dozens of good-paying jobs during construction. These investments will strengthen hospital capacity and help ensure patients and families across Halton have access to high-quality care, closer to home.”

“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “With renovations beginning at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital to expand bed capacity, we are taking an important step forward in connecting more people and their families in Oakville to the world-class hospital care they need and deserve, for generations to come.”
Supported by a provincial investment of up to $154.8 million, approximately 79,000 square feet of additional space will be added to the hospital, to make room for 111 new hospital beds. This expansion will create additional acute care capacity to support more patients from the Halton region as well as patients within and surrounding the Greater Toronto Area. The project is expected to support up to 200 jobs at the peak of project construction.

The Ontario government is investing over $281 million in 2026-27 to support critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 126 hospitals and 67 community health-care facilities across the province, a 9.4 per cent increase from the previous year.

In 2026-27, Halton Healthcare will receive over $1.7 million through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, to support the critical infrastructure needs of their hospitals.
